National Football League (NFL)
NFL Basics for Beginners
- The NFL is the top professional football league in the United States, with 32 teams. Teams are divided into two conferences: the American Football Conference (AFC) and the National Football Conference (NFC).
- The season runs from September to February. Each team plays 17 games in the regular season.
- The playoffs decide the champion, ending in the Super Bowl.
How the Game Works
- Two teams play against each other with 11 players on the field per team.
- The goal is to score points by moving the ball into the other team’s end zone for a touchdown (6 points). Teams can also score with a field goal (3 points) by kicking the ball through the uprights.
- Each team has offensive, defensive, and special teams units, which rotate.
League Rules & Structure
- The draft system gives weaker teams first choice of the best new college players, keeping competition balanced.
- Salary caps limit how much each team can spend on players, preventing wealthy teams from dominating.
- Rules change over time to improve player safety and keep the game fair.
