The New York Jets were founded in 1960 as a charter member of the American Football League (AFL), originally known as the New York Titans. In 1963, under new ownership, the team was renamed the Jets and moved to Shea Stadium, setting the stage for its rise in New York’s sports scene. The franchise’s defining moment came in January 1969, when quarterback Joe Namath famously guaranteed victory in Super Bowl III and delivered, as the Jets defeated the heavily favored Baltimore Colts. That win not only secured the team’s first and only Super Bowl title to date but also legitimized the AFL in its merger with the NFL.

Today, the Jets play their home games at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, which they share with the New York Giants. The team’s colors are green and white, and their loyal fans—known for their famous “J-E-T-S, Jets! Jets! Jets!” chant—bring an unmistakable energy to every game.

The Jets’ history has seen standout players like Joe Namath, Curtis Martin, Don Maynard, and Darrelle Revis, as well as passionate fan traditions that have kept the team’s identity strong despite decades of ups and downs. While championships have been scarce, the Jets’ devoted following and their moments of brilliance on the field make them one of the league’s most recognizable franchises.
